Bupa strengthens its support of women's health
Hong Kong,05 Dec 2021
Bupa strengthens its support of women's health with the launch of
GynaeDAY and BreastCareWAY programmes
Offering holistic healthcare for common gynaecological conditions
and breast health
Bupa Hong Kong, the leading health insurance specialist, announced today the launch of its fourth Bupa Direct Access for You (DAY) programme – GynaeDAY, offering convenient access to a variety of day procedures for women's health. At the same time the Bupa Walking Along with You (WAY) programme extends to cover breast care treatment with end-to-end care from screening, treatment to recovery, all centred around the patient.
The development of both services was in response to the increasing concerns over women's health. The number of women diagnosed with breast cancer quadrupled from 1,152 in 1993 to 4,761 in 20191 and is now the most common cancer among women in Hong Kong. In fact, on average, one in every 14 women in Hong Kong is at risk of developing breast cancer in their lifetime1. Over the past ten years, breast, ovarian and peritoneum, and cervix cancer have been among the top ten fatal malignancies for women in Hong Kong2.
Regular breast examination is vital in early detection and to help prevent severe outcomes. Similarly, many common gynaecological conditions, such as ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids and endometriosis, can often be examined and treated in a day case setting. For these reasons, the GynaeDAY and BreastCareWAY programmes are well-positioned to encourage active health management for women with accessible, professional, and personalised services.
Bupa members who opt for Bupa DAY programme – GynaeDAY can enjoy:
Direct access to modern, well-equipped and professional clinics across convenient locations in Hong Kong, including our new Bupa Medical Centre in Shatin
Consultation and procedures for a range of women’s health issues by specialised health professionals with personalised care
A variety of treatment options performed at the day case centre, if medically necessary, avoiding unnecessary hospital stay
Cashless treatment for eligible members to enjoy a seamless experience
The Bupa WAY programme – Breast care treatment offers members:
End-to-end care and support from consultation through treatment and regular follow-ups by our health coaching team
A free dedicated hotline supported by designated Care Managers (who are registered nurses) to provide health guidance and answer any health-related enquiries
If screening is required, Care Managers can offer personalised suggestions, including a choice of healthcare centres and appointment bookings in our Bupa network
If further consultation and treatment is needed, Care Managers will guide members through the process, with information on procedures and treatments, emotional support and a variety of health information such as cancer care and dietary tips
"Most women know the importance of regular breast self-exams, but might not know what to do if they feel a lump. And up to 14%3 of women experience painful, irregular or heavy periods, which could be a sign of a gynaecological issue. We're pleased to announce the expansion of our Bupa DAY and WAY programmes to support women’s health," said Dr. SiNing Zhao, Medical Director, Bupa Hong Kong.
"Insurance members are no longer just looking for 'pay and claim', but more holistic healthcare support that enables them to access professional advice and effective services, and to make informed decision about their own health. This is what we’ve always been doing at Bupa, to understand people’s needs, empower them to choose what’s best for them, and deliver it through a multidisciplinary and customer-centred healthcare journey."
